AI Readiness Assessment

Before you build, we check whether your data, technology, people and controls can support the AI use cases you have chosen, score each dimension on evidence, and show you what to fix first.

Example scorecard

Target

  • Strategy and ownership3/5
  • Data2/5
  • Technology and integration3/5
  • Security and privacy4/5
  • Governance and risk2/5
  • Skills and operating model3/5
  • Adoption2/5

Scored 1 (not in place) to 5 (managed and improving). Below the target, a gap to close before building.

What we assess

Seven dimensions, each scored on evidence

The same dimensions for every assessment, so results can be compared across use cases and over time.

  • 01

    Strategy and ownership

Whether priority use cases have owners, success measures and funding.

Evidence: Interviews with sponsors and owners; business cases

  • 02

    Data

Whether the data each use case needs exists, can be reached, and is of known quality.

Evidence: Data samples, documentation and access requests

  • 03

    Technology and integration

Infrastructure, cloud, and whether the systems involved have usable interfaces.

Evidence: Architecture documents and interface reviews

  • 04

    Security and privacy

Rules for personal and confidential data, provider terms, identity and access.

Evidence: Policies, provider agreements and access configuration

  • 05

    Governance and risk

Inventory of AI systems, accountability, risk assessment and oversight.

Evidence: Registers, committee terms and existing controls

  • 06

    Skills and operating model

The skills in place, who would build and run AI, and how work is organized.

Evidence: Team structures and role interviews

  • 07

    Adoption

Whether the people affected are ready, trained and have time to change.

Evidence: Workshops with the teams whose work will change

  • How each dimension is scored

    2. 2Started, not consistent
    3. 3Defined and in use
    4. 4Measured and managed

How to get started

Three steps to a plan for AI Readiness Assessment

  1. 1Tell us what you needUse the project form or book a call. A few sentences about the goal is enough to start.
  2. 2Free technical consultationWe go through your goals, users, existing systems and constraints with you.
  3. 3Your planA detailed plan covering the right tech stack, architecture, timeline and budget. Then you decide.

Self-check

Where would you start?

Answer six statements for the use cases you have in mind. Indicative only: the assessment scores each dimension on evidence.

  1. Strategy and ownership

Our priority AI use cases have named owners and agreed success measures.

  2. Data

The data those use cases need is accessible, documented and of known quality.

  3. Technology and integration

The systems involved have APIs or integration points that AI could use.

  4. Governance and risk

We know which AI systems are in use and who is accountable for each.

  5. Security and privacy

We have rules for which data may be used with which AI providers.

  6. Skills and adoption

The teams affected have been trained and have time to change how they work.

Where we would start

Governance and risk is the first gap. Policies, risk assessment, security and oversight for every AI system, organized by the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.

AI Governance & Risk Management

The first step

Fixed-Scope Readiness Assessment

A fixed-scope assessment of your readiness for the use cases you choose, ending with a scored report and the work to close each gap.

Who takes part

  • Executive sponsor
  • Use-case owners
  • IT and data leads
  • Security and privacy
  • Risk and compliance
Ask about it

    How it runs

  1. 1Scope and evidence requestAgree the use cases in scope, and the documents, data samples and access we need.
  2. 2Interviews and workshopsWith owners, IT, data and security, and the teams whose work will change.
  3. 3Technical reviewData samples, system interfaces, infrastructure and security controls.
  4. 4Scoring and readoutEach dimension scored with its evidence, the gaps ranked, and the plan to close them.

You leave with

  • A readiness score for each dimension
  • A ranked list of the gaps that block delivery
  • The work to close each gap, with owners
  • A recommendation for each use case

Deliverables

What you receive

  • A readiness score for each of the seven dimensions
  • The evidence behind every score
  • A ranked list of the gaps that block delivery
  • The work to close each gap, with owners
  • A recommendation for each use case: proceed, prepare or pause
  • A target-state outline for data, systems and controls

Questions

Questions about
AI Readiness Assessment

How is this different from AI Strategy & Roadmap?

The strategy decides which use cases are worth pursuing and in what order. The readiness assessment checks whether your data, systems, people and controls can support the use cases you have chosen, and what to fix first.

Do you need access to our systems?

We need read access to documentation, data samples and configuration, agreed with your security team. We don't need to change anything in production.

Can you assess a use case we have already started?

Yes. The assessment then shows what is missing for it to reach production, which is often the most useful time to run it.

How are the scores set?

Each dimension is scored from 1 (not in place) to 5 (managed and improving) against the evidence we collect, and every score in the report cites that evidence, so it can be checked and repeated.

How is a project priced?

Well-defined scopes are delivered as fixed-price engagements; when requirements are still evolving, we provide a dedicated team instead. Either way, the free technical consultation ends with a plan covering tech stack, architecture, timeline and budget, so you know the cost before work starts.
